Keys do all sorts of good things - they help us drive cars, let us into our homes, open our post boxes and generally give us access to things we didn't have access to before they came along (assuming locks were invented before keys, of course). There is on massive drawback of the key and lock combo, however, and that's the fact that keys are frighteningly easy to misplace and locks don't seem to budge without them.

In a recent survey of office workers, 40% said they were late two or three times a week because they'd mislaid their keys. That's not true but losing your keys is a massive frustration and those bleeping key fobs tend to go haywire after a month or so, rendering them useless.
